Here are a few maintenance tips to avoid maintenance problems or when small things go wrong.
Garbage disposer: Don’t throw coffee grounds or grease down the disposer. It will eventually get clogged up.
If it does get jammed or clogged, turn the breaker off and manually turn the “knob” underneath the unit to try and dislodge the item.
Using a small hex wrench can help.
Occasionally put a small piece of lemon or orange rind in the disposer and turn it on. It helps freshen it up.
HVAC unit: please change your filters every season. This helps keep allergens down and helps keep the system running more efficiently.
Power outage in one room or one outlet:
Make sure you haven’t overloaded a circuit. Unplug those portable fans, ac units, etc. Then go to the breaker box and turn off the breaker for that area. (Make sure it goes all the way off) Wait a minute or two and flip it back on.
Also check and rest the GFCI plugs. The GFCI doesn’t have to be in the same room as the outage to affect the power.
Toilet running:
Open the tank and look inside. You can easily adjust the chain if it’s too short or if it’s hung up on something.
This is usually an easy fix that will save you a lot on your water bill.
